Guideline for Freshers Week

- Rememeber that your behaviour and actions represent the ISOC - "first impressions last."
- Smile or at least be friendly - ask people who are signing up what course they're doing/ where they're from/how they're finding Leeds. If you know someone doing the same course as The Newbie offer to introduce them to each other - the best organisations are a result of good networking between individuals and remember - 'There is no I in ummah'!
- Let people know about events we did last year and that were a success eg. BBQ, IAW, Dawah Training - this will help spark an interest and convince them we are worth signing up to.
- ...NEVER ASK A PERSON WANTING TO SIGN UP IF THEY ARE A MUSLIM! EVEN IF THEY ARE WEARING A CRUCIFIX, CARRYING A LARGE BIBLE OR SINGING 'AWAY IN A MANGER'! IT'S EXTREMELY BAD MANNERS! The isoc is open to everyone regardless of their practice, affiliations and choice of dress. Only Allah SWT knows what's in a persons heart, and only Allah SWT is the eternal Judge.
- Sisters - if you a non-hijabi in the prayer room please make an extra effort to befriend her and break this awful stereotype that hijabis only mix with hijabis/look down on non-hijabis.
- And the same applies to beards [ie. brothers]
- Avoid lecturing Newbies about what you do for the isoc / your position in the isoc. As Ahmed said a few meetings back, projecting the image that we are just normal students will inshallah encourage more people to sign up and join the committee next year.
